Kitchen Display System and KOT Printing for Restaurants

The right dish reaches the right station, on paper or on screen, even with no internet. The counter and waiters know the moment it’s ready.

Kitchen stations, set up your way

Create stations such as Kitchen, Tandoor, Beverages, Wok or Pizza oven. Every menu item belongs to a station, and every station has its printer. If a station’s printer is missing or offline, its tickets go to the device’s fallback printer, so no order is lost.

KOTs that are easy to read in a hot kitchen

Pressing KOT on the POS groups new items by station. A drink goes to the bar, naan to the tandoor, curry to the kitchen. Each station’s ticket shows:

  • A large KOT number and the station name
  • Table or channel and token in large type
  • Order number, time and who sent it (“By: Ravi”)
  • Each item in large bold type with its size and add-ons (“+ Extra cheese”)
  • Kitchen notes highlighted (“>> less spicy”)
  • Combo parts sent to their own stations, and weighed items with their weight

Nothing cooked twice, nothing missed

Follow-up KOTs

Add items later and only the new ones go to the kitchen.

Cancelled KOTs

Cancelling a sent item prints “*** CANCELLED ***” with “-1 x Paneer Tikka”, so the station stops making it.

Reprints

Reprinted KOTs are marked REPRINT. Moving or merging tables never re-sends items to the kitchen.

Turn any tablet, monitor or TV into a kitchen display

In the dashboard, set a device to Kitchen screen. After PIN sign-in it opens only the kitchen board, with no auto-lock.

  • Tickets show oldest first, with KOT number, table or token, items, sizes, add-ons, notes and age
  • Filter by station, or run one screen per station
  • Tickets older than 15 minutes get a red minutes pill
  • Each ticket’s header and border take its status colour

A long-press undoes one step if it was tapped by mistake. Recently served shows tickets from the last 3 hours, and Recall brings one back if a dish is returned.

“Order ready” reaches every counter and waiter

When a ticket turns Ready, every counter and captain device shows “KOT 42 (Table T5) is ready”. Waiters know when to pick up, without shouting across the kitchen.

The kitchen keeps running when the internet doesn’t

The kitchen display receives tickets from the counter over your local Wi-Fi or LAN, so it keeps working through an internet outage. How offline and multi-counter sync work

Know your slowest dish, by the minute

The kitchen display times every ticket:

  • Wait: from sent until Start
  • Prep: from Start until Ready
  • Total: from sent until ready

The Kitchen report shows average wait, prep and total time per station and per item for any dates, and lists slow tickets over a threshold you set (default 20 minutes). See all reports

Token numbers for takeaway and delivery

Takeaway and delivery orders get a daily token number, printed big on the bill and KOT, printable as a separate token slip, and shown on the order-status board as Preparing or Ready to collect. Token numbers restart each business day. POS for QSRs

Included in Pro, not sold separately

The kitchen display is part of the Pro plan, along with the captain app, customer display and inventory. See pricing

Set up your kitchen in minutes

Name your stations, assign each menu category or item to one, and choose a printer for each station in Settings › Printers and stations. Then pair a spare tablet or TV with a 6-digit code and set it to Kitchen screen. Network and USB thermal printers work in 58 mm and 80 mm widths, and Bluetooth printers work on Android.

Busy kitchens often run a screen per station, such as one for the tandoor and one for beverages, while the counter keeps a printed KOT for its own records.

Kitchen display questions

What hardware do I need for the kitchen display?

Any tablet, monitor or TV that can run the Dineligent app or a browser. Set the device to Kitchen screen in the dashboard.

Can I use a KDS and printed KOTs together?

Yes. Stations can print KOTs and show them on a kitchen screen. Use whichever each station prefers.

Does the kitchen display work without internet?

Yes. It gets tickets from the counter over your local Wi-Fi or LAN, so it keeps working in an internet outage.

How does the waiter know an order is ready?

When the kitchen marks a ticket Ready, every counter and captain phone shows a ready notice with the KOT number and table.

What happens when an item is cancelled after the KOT?

A cancelled KOT prints at that station and the kitchen screen shows the ticket as cancelled, so the kitchen stops making it. Cancels need a reason and are recorded.

Is the kitchen display an extra charge?

No. It’s included in the Pro plan.
